Gold dollar not yet the statute

In 1899 Bryan has lost. The dollar is not yet defined as gold in the 1900 Act. The Sherman purchase duty stays repealed.

The 1896 election kept the gold dollar as the political line. It did not write the definition into the Gold Standard Act. That Act is 1900: 25.8 grains, nine-tenths fine.

The Sherman purchase duty was repealed in 1893 and has not returned. Specie payments have been in force since 1879. New gold supplies in these years expanded the world gold stock. This page does not turn that into a forecast.
