Private holding, no window
In 1977 private bullion holding is legal again. Public convertibility is not. The foreign official window closed in 1971.
At the end of 1974, statute again allowed Americans to hold gold bullion. That private right is in force. It did not restore a public contract to redeem paper in gold.
The official window for foreign treasuries closed on 15 August 1971. Silver Thursday, the March 1980 break in a concentrated silver position, has not happened.
