  1. John LawFinancier · 1671–1729Regency France fused his note-issuing bank with Mississippi Company shares. Both broke in 1720.
  2. Adam SmithEconomist · 1723–1790In 1776 he still described gold and silver as the money trade had selected, and the Bank of Amsterdam as a bank that took coin and did not lend.
  3. Alexander HamiltonTreasury secretary · 1755–1804His 1791 mint report argued for a bimetallic dollar. The Coinage Act of 1792 wrote that into statute.
  4. Andrew JacksonPresident · 1767–1845In 1832 he vetoed a new charter for the Second Bank of the United States.
  5. Woodrow WilsonPresident · 1856–1924On 23 December 1913 he signed the Federal Reserve Act.
  6. Ludwig von MisesEconomist · 1881–1973He argued that a gold standard restrained the issuer. This page reports the argument. It does not adopt it.
